Calling all illustrators

Posted by Miriam Nash on 17th January 2018

Illustrators, we need your help. We’re looking for volunteers to live illustrate children’s stories and play a key role in our creative writing workshops.

Every week, we welcome groups of 30 students through a secret door behind Hoxton Street Monster Supplies to become authors and illustrators at the Ministry of Stories. We have two opportunities for illustrators and would love to work with you.

Live Illustrator, Storymaking workshops

As a class of children co-create their own story, you will live illustrate characters and action. Your pictures will be featured in beautiful storybooks that the children will take home at the end of the workshop. It’s a great way to kickstart creativity at the beginning of your day.

Timings: 10.30 – 11.30am weekday mornings. You’re welcome to stay for the full workshop and debrief from 10am – 1pm to see the finished product, but you don’t have to.

Lead Illustrator, Comic Books and how to make them

Alongside a writing facilitator, you will co-lead an interactive workshop on comic book making and share your own illustration practice with children and young people. We will help you develop your education and facilitation skills with mentoring through the process.

Timings: 10am – 1pm weekday mornings (includes set-up and debrief).

Lead illustrators will need to complete a DBS check which we will help you with. We ask all volunteers to attend a volunteer training and/or shadow shift and commit to six sessions over the first six months.

Register your interest to find out more.
