Freelance Marketing Manager (maternity cover) – 2 days/week, 10 month contract
Ministry of Stories (MoS) exists to champion the writer in every child. We are a creative writing and mentoring centre for young people age 8 – 18 in east London. We believe that the best way for children to acquire skills and realise their potential is through the joyful discovery of stories and the development of their imaginations.
You’ll find us behind the mysterious shop front of Hoxton Street Monster Supplies, the only shop to cater to the everyday needs of every imaginable kind of monster.
Ministry of Stories was co-founded in 2010 by author Nick Hornby and has since supported thousands of children through creative writing workshops and special attention-grabbing projects. Our work is led by a team of writing programme leaders, and supported by an incredible pool of more than 250 volunteers, who provide our young writers with weekly one-to-one mentoring and support.

About the role
Our current freelance Marketing Manager is going on maternity leave and we are looking for an ambitious, organised and experienced individual who can deliver the key projects we have planned for 2019/20.
The lead project is to deliver a significant website refresh, already in progress. You will also lead and champion our master communications plan and ensure this is an integral part of our long-term programme and fundraising planning. New tasks will include developing all marketing aspects of our 10th Birthday celebrations and creating a new, engaged ‘address book’ through which Ministry of Stories can secure press and wider media coverage at key moments throughout 2020. You will also work closely with the fundraising team to maximise our use of high-profile author ambassadors to support this.
This is an exciting time to join our small but ambitious charity, as we focus on building the foundations for a long term, sustainable future. We have a motivated senior leadership team and are overseen by a supportive board of trustees who understand the importance of maintaining our reputation for being fun, creative and trustworthy, alongside delivering high-quality writing projects with our children and young people.
Your project management and relationship building skills will be essential to deliver the requirements of this busy role in 2 days/week. You will need to demonstrate that you can manage and prioritise a varied workload, quickly understand a brand and its opportunities, and work with your colleagues to fulfil our potential.
This is the perfect role for a talented freelance Marketing Manager who is looking to get some key projects under their belt in a short time, as part of a supportive and enthusiastic team. The role will report directly into the Deputy Director and for the right person, Ministry of Stories can offer flexibility as to preferred working days and locations, alongside supporting a good handover period at the start and end of the contract with the current post-holder.
