Alaz’s speechwriting tips

Posted by Miriam Nash on 8th July 2019

“It takes time, but it’s worth it, because you write so much stuff that’s important.”

We believe in the power of young peoples’ voices and the difference they can make in the world. That’s why one of our favourite, and most popular school projects, is Speak Up, where young people write speeches on issues they care about and deliver them to change makers at the Houses of Parliament.

We want more young people to be able to make change in the world they live in, which is why you can now download our FREE Speak Up learning resource (in the bar on the right).

Watch the video below and hear from Alaz, a young writer who took part, talk about the process of writing a speech, from choosing your topic to crafting counter-arguments. He also gives tips on dealing with nerves and how to approach a performance.

Check back soon, as we’ll be releasing some more Speak Up videos over the next few weeks in the lead up to this summer’s Speak Up at the Houses of Parliament.
